I’m incensed for you just reading that. God knows how you must have felt. The problem lies in the sentence - “for me!” There’s so much wrong and emotional blackmail to unpack here. I fully understand she’s coming from a place of denial and pining, but you were not her vessel or passage to a second chance. Sadly, it seems there’s a generational lack of appreciation of what’s appropriate that stems from how they were raised - the women bring up the kids. That’s just what we do, right?!
This is such a raw and important piece, thank you for sharing it, Ali. There is so much loaded onto women when it comes to their “role” in society that society forgets her individual merits and purpose which may or may not include motherhood.
